Thomas Knyvett, (also spelt Knivett, Knevet and Knevitt), was born at Fundenhall and christened November 5, 1644. He married Phoebe Hobart, (also spelt Hobarte), on December 11, 1671 at Hardingham, Norfolk. She died August 29, 1713. He died of smallpox at Portsmouth, c1704.
He is the Captain Knevet, who commanded Argier in 1672, when it deceived a Dutch privateer off Aldburgh. Mentioned on page 24, My Mystery Ships by Vice-Admiral Gordon Campbell.

Richard Gibson, Judge Advocate, Bezan yacht. The Court Martial Report on the loss of the Algier. Seven captains present. Gives a summary of the evidence. Captain Thomas Knevitt sentenced to one year in gaol, and to loss of six months pay. Master of the ship, Richard Kingstone, six months gaol and to forfeit all pay. George Trist, ordinary seaman, recommended for leniency because he was a volunteer to be ducked three times at the maine yard arm of the Phoenix and there to remain as one of her company, (August 9, 1673).
