Sir John Knyvett, (also spelt Knivett), was a member of Corpus Christi College Cambridge. He succeeded his father as 4° B. Berners. Made a Knight of the Bath at the coronation of Charles II, (1660-1685). Made Deputy Lieutenant of Norfolk in 1662.

John was born at Ashwellthorpe, Norfolk, England. He died July 28, 1673 at Darsham, Suffolk, England and was buried July 30, 1673 at Ashwellthorpe, Norfolk, England. His Will was dated May 16, 1673 and proved February, 1674.

He married Mary, daughter of Sir Thomas Bedingfield of Darsham, on June 13, 1655 in Darsham, Suffolk, England. She died April 18, 1713. Her Will was dated October 16, 1710 and proved August 5, 1713.

Description of silver plate given to parish by Sir John Knyvett. The massive antique communion plate bears the following inscription:- 'Deo Sacrum ex dedicatione Johannis Knyvett militis Balner 1671,' and consists of chalice, flagon, paten and almsdish. Ashwellthorp Book, (1671).
