In 1936, an amazing chapter of coincidence to the history of the Gunpowder and Treason Plot was added. Eddie Emmet Fawkes, a descendant of Guy Fawkes, married Ida Mary Knevett, a descendant of Lord Thomas.
Ida was born in Ealing. Eddie was born at Horton, near Bradford, not far from York, the birthplace of his infamous ancestor. Ida and Eddie married at Palmer's Green, North London.
Eddie was associated with Watford estate agents, Gorden Hudson, first as a partner, and later as a consultant. Ida started Oxhey Travel and was a travel agent with four businesses. When they retired, they moved to their bungalow, High Trees. The odd thing is that the Earl of Essex, in Guy Fawkes' time, was also involved in the Gunpowder Plot events, and Ida & Eddie moved to what was formerly the Earl's estate. This was before the connection between Ida, Eddie and the Gunpowder Plot was known.
Their unique link was not discovered until 1961, some 360 years after Guy Fawkes was captured by Lord Thomas Knevett attempting to blow up the Houses of Parliament. The revelation brought minor celebrity status for Ida and Eddie. They were invited to a cocktail party at the London Dungeon, publicising an historical exhibition. They were interviewed on Thames TV the night before the party, and the BBC the evening after. Their story, also, appeared in the national newspapers and on Movietone News in picture theatres around Great Britain. Thereafter, they received numerous dinner invitations from people interested in their historical connection.
Eddie died in 1982, after 46 years of happy marriage. Ida died in 1998
